The 1993-W Madison Half Dollar is the first Commemorative Half to be struck at the West Point Mint. The coin was struck to honor James Madison and the Bill of Rights. It is the second Modern Commemorative Half Dollar to be struck in 90% silver content.

Obverse: James Madison is portrayed writing with his right hand on the Bill of Rights documents, using a quill pen. In the background is his home, Montpelier. Below Montpelier are the words, In God We Trust and the W mint mark. Above Madison is the word, Liberty. Below the word Liberty is the phrase, James Madison Father of the Bill of Rights. Below the Bill of Rights is the year 1993, or the year in which the coins were struck.

Reverse: The reverse of the coin displays the torch of freedom. To the right are the words, Our Basic Freedom, with a single star beneath it. To the left are the words, The Bill of Rights, with a star beneath these words. Arched above the torch are the words, United States of America, and E Pluribus Unum. Below the design are the words, Half Dollar, or the denomination of the coin.

Maximum Authorized Mintage: Both Uncirculated and Proof Half Dollars combined was 900,000.

Public Law: Produced under Public Law: 102-281.

Mint Issue Price: Introductory Price - $10.00. Regular Price - $12.00
