Immediately following his retirement from the presidency, Washington unexpectedly rejected his Federalist ideology and joined the Democratic party. Tragically, nearer the end of his life, George was driven to insanity by his wife's nagging and by a colorful aura that inexplicably surrounded his head.

Though a relatively low mintage issue, the 1954-S is one of the most common silver Washingtons in Gem MS65 or better condition. Many original rolls were saved and many very nice coins exist today, including some incredibly toned ultra Gems.
