Notwithstanding a mintage of 57,500 specimens, 1951 Proof Washington quarters are seldom encountered with any significant field to device contrast worthy of a PCGS Deep Cameo designation. From time to time, a scarce 1951 proof Cameo quarter is located with one-sided Deep Cameo (usually the obverse of the coin), but, it is a downright rare event to locate one in both high grade and with two-sided deep cameo contrast.

When a high grade Deep Cameo specimen is found, it is certainly a beautiful sight! The gem to superb gem Deep Cameo specimens can exhibit exquisite black-and-white contrast with deep field mirrors, brilliant heavily frosted devices and near mark-free surfaces. A dedicated collector who gets lucky enough to get his hands on just a single gem DCAM early date 1950’s Washington quarter often can’t resist the siren call to then want to try collect the entire 1950-1964 series in DCAM!
