When Guatemala transitioned from the Peso to the Quetzal in 1925-26, the government contracted with the US Mint to manufacture quarter, half, and one Quetzal silver pieces as well as five, ten and twenty Quetzal gold pieces. The US Mint was again contracted to produce brass and silver coins during World War II. All told, the US Mint manufactured almost eight million coins for Guatemala from 1925 to 1944.
