The Huguenot-Walloon half dollars were struck to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the settlement of the "middle states" of America by the Walloons and French and Belgian Huguenots. Considering the rather contrived commemoratives of the 1930s, the Huguenot was pretty legitimate. The original distributed mintage was 142,080 at an issue price of $1 ($1.50 by mail). This is a rather large mintage for commemoratives, but the Huguenot was an "earlier" issue and it was widely distributed. While relatively common is lower mint state grades, the Huguenot is rarer in Gem condition than the mintage would suggest.
The average grade for a Huguenot is MS63 to MS65. Superb MS66 examples are scarce, and MS67 specimens are quite rare. Huguenots usually have subdued, satin-like luster. Most examples are usually well struck and relatively mark-free. Some examples are toned and eye appeal is the major consideration for this issue.
