Deep Mirrored Prooflikes and Prooflikes are very scarce for the 1921-P. A fair amount of the prooflikes exhibit cloudy spots due to storage contamination. It is very diffcult to find good cameo contrast between the devices with the 1921, only a handfull can be said to have it. Because of a large mintage and high survival rate. prooflikes should ordinarily be fairly available. Apparently at some point in 1921, all three mints discarded the practice of basining working dies. Since 1916, silver coins had designs not intended to be basined. With all three mints working to capacity in 1921 to replace the dollars melted in 1918-20, short cuts were probably taken in production. Without the basining step the design was not usally struck up completely in the wreath area.

According to a notice in the June 1934 issue of The Numismatist (p. 416), collectors could still purchase Uncirculated 1921 Morgan Dollars for "the face value of the coins and an amount sufficient to cover the mail charrges by first-class mail."
