The 1917-D is scarce in circualted grades, more scarce than the 1915-D and 1916-D, though not as scarce as the 1913-D Type 2, 1914-D, and 1918-D. It is rare in Gem condition, about as rare as the other 1913 (Type 2) to 1916 Denver Mint issues (beginning in 1918 and thru 1927, the D Mints get quite a bit rarer in Gem condition.) The 1917-D is usually, but not always, well struck. Luster is usually of the satiny type.
