The US Mints manufactured more than 89 million coins for Mexico in just three years: 1906-07 and 1935. In 1949, the Mexican mint at Mexico City and the US Mint at San Francisco restruck 1898-Mo pesos for use as a "trade dollar" in China. They are distinguishable from the original 1898-Mo pesos only by the position of the "o" in the mintmark and by the number of denticles around the rim. There is some debate whether the San Francisco coins ever made it out of San Francisco, which may leave the indistinguishable Mexico City coins as the only "restrike" examples available today.
