Described by John Coxe as part of the Trade Dollar Challenge 50 Set; “ 1876-CC Small Wide cc This was the final reuse of the small, wide cc mint mark reverse used each year. As the Type I reverse was retired in after this, the die ceased to be used. This is an extremely rare find.” Having found Joe Kirchgessner”s newly published Trade Dollar text to be so invaluable, I elected to have this NGC UNC Details crossover attributed to the Kirchgessner designation TDV-21 even though the Coxe and Kirchgessner variety are one in the same. Currently there are no straight graded Trade Dollars with this variety attribution.
