Judd 930 is part of the series of Standard Silver Pattern Coins, planned as lighter and smaller coins to save money on production and to prevent hoarding.  This series began in 1869 and continued through 1871, but none were ever made for circulation.  Off-metal variations were made in copper, brass, aluminum, and nickel.  Judd-930 is one of the copper versions.

Judd-930 is not rare, but it is much more scarce than recent auction records would indicate.  Several of the coins have bounced from auction to auction from 2010 to 2013, some have been regraded, and some have moved from one major grading service to another.  The best examples grade PR66BN, one of which was an apparent duplicate from the Simpson Collection that appeared in at least three subsequent auctions, setting a record price of $8,050 in a 2010 appearance.
