J-397 is a back-dated "transitional" pattern that was made in the late 1860s and early 1870s for sale to collectors, often as part of complete denomination sets of restrikes.  Saul Teichman of www.uspatterns.com notes that the reverse die on some (if not all) of these matches the reverse of an 1871 Silver Dollar.  Approximately a dozen examples are known, many of which exhibit partial mint red color, while others are fully brown.  The most colorful example known to exist is the full red Cameo example illustrated above from the Simpson Collection.
