Ron Guth

This unique gold pattern was struck on August 2, 1863 by George Eckfeldt for the Chief Coiner, Lewis R. Broomall.  On the same occasion, Eckfeldt struck another unique gold pattern (Judd 351), with "GOD OUR TRUST" in the field, minus a scroll. The Garrett family owned both of these unique, gold patterns for decades, eventually bequeathing them to Johns Hopkins University.  After being sold in the blockbuster Garrett sale of 3/1980, they were separated for a number of years and eventually reunited in the Simpson Collection, where they remain today.
