Low Mintage and Conditionally Scarce 1859 Seated Liberty Dime MS65. Just 430,000 Seated Dimes emerged from the Philadelphia Mint in 1859, and the issue is only considered common in grades below VF. A semi-prooflike Gem, both sides are noticeably reflective in the fields with some striations (as produced) evident on the obverse. Both sides are bright with minimal golden tinting and a sharp overall appearance. There are remarkably few distractions, as befits the technical grade that has been assigned.

The 1859 Dime was the last of the Stars Obverse Dimes. It is a fairly common date, though it is not nearly as common as the 1857, 1857-O, and the 1856. Fortunately, this date can be found in high grade more easily than any other date of the 1856-1859 time period. Over a dozen examples are known in MS67, making this an axcellent value for type collectors. The best example is a monster PCGS MS68 that was graded decades ago but which has never appeared at auction.
This date comes well struck and usually has frosty luster.
