S-09, J-180. (Population 1/1, 67 in Foreside Collection). Standard Copper Nickel. S-09 is the most common of the 1856 die pairings, most likely struck in a quantity possibly as high as 1500 for collectors in 1858 along with S-04. Over a third of these are found in circulated grades, and rarely are high grade examples found that are nice. The Foreside example is clearly the finest S-09, with this coin coming in second. Luster on this coin is not adequately shown on this "Redbird." The PR67+ in the Simpson collection is an S-03. Pedigree: Doug Wright
