CAC. N-2. As described in a 2020 Stacks Auction: A hard and satiny example with an overall smooth, nearly Gem-quality appearance to both sides. The strike is sharp throughout, and the surfaces are toned in glossy antique copper with a few swirls of slightly lighter color evident. A couple of dull obverse marks around star 1 are mentioned for provenance purposes. Grellman Die State b, cataloged in its Goldberg sale appearance as "the spur from the left base of the N in ONE is barely visible." Although the Mint struck over 2 million 1843 Large Cents, a much smaller quantity actually exist. The PCGS CoinFacts survival estimate is at about 2,000 coins exist. From the coins that do exist, many more have been altered or over cleaned, making them ungradable. At PCGS, we have graded less than 400 coins in all graded combined, making them even scarcer. In Grades of MS65 or higher they are also very difficult to obtain. Very few coins exist in MS66 condition or higher.
