Like most Capped Bust Quarter Eagles, the 1833 is a very rare date. Only one pair of dies was used to strike the entire mintage of 4,160 pieces. There are approximately 10-12 Mint State pieces known, led by the PCGS MS66+ from the Pogue Collection. The strike quality on this date is inconsistent. Some examples show strong central and star details, while others have flat stars (especially at the top of the obverse) and soft centers. However, strike is always secondary to rarity on coins with such a small mintage -- because the opportunity to own any example is indeed rare.
