The 1785 Vermont Immune Columbia Coppers represents a unique combination of styles. The die used for the obverse of this coin was not used with any other Vermont issue. However, it is believed the punch used for the head was used to create a few other Vermont dies. The Immune Columbia design of this piece was used with two other distinct issues dated 1785. One was with a Nova Constellatio design showing a single eye surrounded by rays and stars; the other showed an image of the British King, George III.Another connection with the Vermont Immune Columbia Copper to other Vermont Copper issues is the fact that Landscape issues of Vermont coinage used the same single eye surrounded by rays and stars as seen on the Nova Constellation Coinage, however, the wording is changed to STELLA QUARTA DECIMA (Latin for the Fourteenth Star). This was a reference to Vermont becoming the fourteenth State.
The 1785 Vermont Immune Columbia Coppers are a very rare issue with only approximately thirty specimens known. Most specimens are in low grade with Very Fine being the finest grade known for the issue.
