This long, long series stretches from the time when Abe Lincoln was less than 30 years old to the years when Teddy Roosevelt was in power. This set involves three distinct types: the No Motto Covered Ear, the No Motto and the With Motto. In the circulation strikes, there are no so-called "impossible" coins as are seen in many other series. The classic rarity is the famed 1875. The early proofs, on the other hand, are filled with classic rarities! The 1838 "Covered Ear" Proof is a coin of incredible beauty, and PCGS has certified two of them, the famed Cardinal Spellman example and the Farouk/Pittman specimen. Every other coin from 1839 to 1858 is virtually as rare (or rarer!) as the mintage of these coins was usually five pieces or less. The No Motto $10 gold pieces of 1859-65 and the With Motto pieces of 1866-1907 continue to offer challenges. The highest mintage of any these later-dated coins is 120 pieces, so you know that you're in for some work (and some fun!) in the pursuit of completion.

Notes: This set has bonuses. Please see the Set Composition for a listing.
