German East Africa was located in the former country of Tanganyika (now a part of Tanzania). Germany controlled the territory as a protectorate from 1884 until World War I. Germany issued coins for the colony from 1891 to 1914, including this series of 1/2 Rupie coins. This set is slightly tougher than the 1/4 Rupie set, only because the 1906-A and 1906-J dates are difficult to locate in Mint State.
