关于此套币: Although George III died in January 1820 no sovereigns of Geoerge IV were issued until 1821. Benedetto Pistrucci engraved the laureate head obverse and adopted the reverse design as already seen on the five pound and two pound coins, St. George killiing the Dragon with a sword. During 1825 the classic design was replaced by shield reverses on the sovereigns until 1871 but then returned to feature on the reverse again until 1989.
The obverse bust was famously altered in 1825 to feature the more flattering bare head design by William Wynon.
